Suspended particle generators and photometers are used for integrity testing or leak source detection testing in efficient air filtration systems. Filter manufacturers use this device to scan ULPA and HEPA (Ultra High Efficiency, High Efficiency) filters to validate their products. The filter argument uses this device to confirm that the filter has not been damaged during transportation and has been installed correctly without any leaks.
With the combination of a suitable suspended particle generator and photometer, some shortcomings of the filter, such as pinholes, thin spots, gasket leaks, structural leaks, or sealing issues, can be quickly and quantitatively detected and corrected to protect the product and personnel.

Aerosol generators can be divided into two types: heat generation and cold generation. The heat generator utilizes the principle of evaporation and condensation. The atomized aerosol particles are evaporated by a heater and condensed into tiny droplets under specific conditions. After removing the oversized and undersized droplets, a mist like DOP with a particle size distribution of 0.1-0.3um is left in the air duct.

A cold generator refers to the use of compressed air to create bubbles in a liquid, which then splash through a Laskin nozzle to produce a dispersed phase of DOP aerosol with a maximum particle size distribution of around 0.65 μ m. Cold DOP is often used for scanning and leak detection of filters.
