Extremely low content:
Rock gold deposit: Au is usually 1-10 g/t (≈ 1-10 ppm)
Sand gold mine: possibly as low as 0.1 g/t
Platinum group elements (Pt, Pd, etc.): mostly below 1 ppm
Multiple interfering factors:
Symbiotic minerals (such as gold encapsulated in pyrite)
Matrix effect (signal overlap in copper silver co occurring minerals)
Handheld XRF spectrometer
The rapid screening of gold (Au), silver (Ag), and other minerals in the wild typically has a detection limit of 5-50 ppm.
Cannot directly detect platinum group elements (such as Pt and Pd require high-performance models).
Portable, lossless, and fast (10 seconds/point).
sample preparation:
XRF detection surface needs to be polished to 400 mesh or above
Avoid using lead containing polishing agents (which can interfere with Au signals)
Calibration verification:
Calibrate daily with standard samples (such as GSA-8A gold standard sample)
When the detection value approaches the device detectionlimitIt must be retested in the laboratory
data interpretation:
The 'Au' peak of handheld XRF needs to exclude Hg interference (commonly seen in antimony gold mines)
