In the vacuum forming process, it can be divided into two categories based on the different forms of raw materials (sheets or rolls): thick walled and thin walled. Thick sheet vacuum forming refers to the technology of using raw materials with a thickness exceeding 2mm that cannot be vacuum formed on fully automatic machines, and using a semi-automatic vacuum forming machine specifically designed for thick sheets for processing and production.

The principle of thick sheet vacuum forming is basically the same as the conventional vacuum forming process. The plastic sheet is cut into size and heated to soften. With the help of the pressure difference or mechanical pressure on both sides of the sheet, it is deformed and covered on a specific mold contour surface. After cooling and shaping, it is trimmed to obtain the desired product.

There are currently two main types of vacuum forming processing available in the market. One type is vacuum forming with a thickness of less than 2.5mm, usually formed by processing rolls. Another type is large thick sheet vacuum forming with a thickness of 3-12mm, which is generally processed and formed from sheet metal. The machines used for these two types of processing are different, so when looking for suppliers, it is important to distinguish each other's production capabilities.
