What are the maintenance measures for injection screws

The maintenance of injection molded screws needs to be comprehensively implemented from the aspects of material selection, operating standards, environmental control, regular maintenance, and fault prevention. The specific measures are as follows:

1、 Material and Manufacturing Process Optimization

  1. Wear resistant and corrosion-resistant material
    • Using alloy steel to manufacture screws, the surface is treated with nitriding and plated with a hard chromium layer, with a hardness of 700-800HV, improving wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
    • For processing corrosive materials such as POM, stainless steel or chrome plated screws can be used to reduce chemical erosion.
  2. structural optimization
    • The design of the screw thread part needs to consider the material characteristics. For example, when processing materials containing fiberglass, a low shear, high mixing screw structure should be used to reduce fiber breakage and wear.

2、 Operating standards and parameter control

  1. temperature management
    • To avoid material degradation or screw deformation caused by high temperature, when processing reinforced plastics containing glass fiber, mineral powder, etc., accurately control the temperature of the material barrel to ensure uniform melting.
    • Clean the material cylinder in a timely manner during shutdown to prevent residual materials from carbonizing and adhering to the screw.
  2. speed control
    • Reduce the screw speed (especially by 5% -10% when processing plastics containing strengthening agents), reduce frictional heat generation and the generation of strengthening agent debris, and balance shear force and wear risk.
  3. Avoid air freight forwarding
    • During the trial operation and debugging, the running time should not exceed 3 minutes to prevent wear caused by dry friction between the screw and the material cylinder.
  4. materials supply management
    • Strictly monitor the quality of the material supply, prevent impurities from entering the material barrel, install a magnetic frame to filter metal shavings, and avoid scratching the surface of the screw with hard particles.

3、 Cleaning and lubrication maintenance

  1. Regular cleaning
    • When processing different materials or colors, promptly clean the screws with specialized cleaning agents or cleaning materials (such as polystyrene, polyethylene) to remove residues and decomposition products.
    • Clean once every 3 months for primary colors or transparent resins; PPS and other super engineering plastics need to be cleaned after each production.
  2. lubrication protection
    • Apply molybdenum disulfide heat-resistant grease on the joint surface between the screw and other parts during assembly to reduce friction and facilitate disassembly.
    • High temperature resistant grease is used between the transmission bearings to form an effective lubricating film and reduce wear.

4、 Environment and Storage Management

  1. Cooling system maintenance
    • Regularly inspect the cooling water pipes, remove blockages, repair leaking points, ensure smooth circulation of cooling water, and maintain a reasonable working temperature for the screws.
  2. moisture-proof and rust-proof
    • Temporarily unused screws should be cleaned and coated with protective oil, wrapped and hung in a dry and ventilated place to prevent oxidation and corrosion.

5、 Regular inspection and fault prevention

  1. Wear and tear inspection
    • Regularly inspect the surface of the screw for scratches, friction damage, or corrosion. For minor scratches, use fine sandpaper or oilstone to polish them. For severe wear, analyze the cause and replace them.
    • Check the clearance between the screw and the barrel. If it exceeds the standard, replace the screw or repair the barrel.
  2. Concentricity verification
    • Regularly verify the concentricity between the screw and the barrel, correct deviations, and prevent abnormal wear.
  3. Fault signal monitoring
    • Pay attention to wear signals such as slow feeding in the screw feeding section and long pre plasticization time in the compression and homogenization sections, and repair or replace them in a timely manner.

6、 Special material processing protection

  1. POM material protection
    • Optimize processing parameters (such as reducing temperature and shortening residence time) to minimize the risk of material degradation.
    • Use screw protectant to form a protective film, reducing direct contact and friction between POM and the screw surface.
  2. Fiberglass material processing
    • Choose wear-resistant screw material, accurately control the temperature of the material barrel, and avoid glass fiber breakage and screw wear.
