Precautions for using the transmission feeding machine

A transmission feeder is a device that automatically transports materials through mechanical transmission (such as chains, belts, screws, etc.) and is widely used in industrial production for raw material conveying, batching, sorting, and other processes. To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the equipment, the following matters need to be given special attention:

1、 Installation and commissioning precautions

  1. Basic Installation
    • level calibrationThe installation ground of the equipment should be flat, and a level should be used to ensure that the body is level, avoiding wear of transmission components or material displacement caused by tilting.
    • securely fixedFix the equipment with anchor bolts or expansion screws to prevent vibration displacement during operation.
    • exampleDue to the lack of calibration level in a certain factory, the chain of the chain feeder was worn off during operation, and the chain was replaced twice within 3 months.
  2. Installation of transmission components
    • Belt/chain tensionThe tension should be moderate. If it is too loose, it is easy to slip, and if it is too tight, it will increase the load on the motor.
      • Belt tensioningPress the middle of the belt with your fingers, and the sinking amount should be 1/10~1/15 of the belt thickness.
      • chain tensionThe sag of the chain should be 1% to 2% of the distance between the centers of the two sprockets.
    • Alignment adjustmentEnsure that the axis of the driving wheel is parallel to that of the driven wheel to avoid bearing damage caused by unbalanced load.
  3. Electrical wiring and debugging
    • grounding protectionThe motor and control box must be reliably grounded to prevent electric leakage and injury.
    • Forward and reverse rotation testBefore powering on, confirm that the motor direction is consistent with the equipment identification to avoid reverse material transportation.
    • Limit switch verificationTest the upper and lower limit switches to ensure automatic shutdown after the materials are in place.

2、 Precautions for operation during operation

  1. Pre startup inspection
    • Material inspectionConfirm that the material is free of large blocks, hard objects, or tangled objects to avoid jamming the transmission components.
    • Lubrication checkCheck the lubrication points of the gearbox, bearings, chains, etc. to ensure sufficient lubricating oil/grease.
    • protective deviceEnsure that protective covers and guardrails are installed in place to prevent personnel from coming into contact with moving parts.
  2. Monitoring during operation
    • current monitoringObserve the motor load through an ammeter, and immediately stop the machine for inspection if the rated current is exceeded.
    • Abnormal noise and vibrationIf abnormal vibration or sharp noise occurs, it may be due to bearing damage, chain derailment, or material jamming.
    • temperature monitoringThe temperature of the reducer and motor should be ≤ 70 ℃. If it exceeds the limit, the machine should be stopped for cooling.
  3. Shutdown maintenance
    • No load shutdownStop feeding first and wait for the conveyor belt/chain to clear before stopping to avoid material accumulation.
    • Emergency shutdownImmediately press the emergency stop button when abnormalities such as material blockage or equipment smoking are detected.

3、 Key points of maintenance and upkeep

  1. routine maintenance
    • cleanClean the residual materials on the conveyor belt/chain daily to prevent corrosion or clumping.
    • Tightening inspectionCheck if the bolts and nuts are loose, especially at the connections of the transmission components.
    • lubrication
      • Gearbox: Replace lubricating oil every 3-6 months (depending on frequency of use).
      • Chain: Apply heat-resistant chain oil every month.
      • Bearings: Add lithium based grease every quarter.
  2. regular maintenance
    • Belt/chain replacement
      • Belt: Replace when cracks, delamination, or elongation exceeds 5% occur.
      • Chain: Replace when the wear of the chain links exceeds 10% of the original diameter.
    • Bearing maintenanceDisassemble and inspect every 1-2 years, and replace worn bearings.
    • Electrical systemCheck the contacts of contactors and relays annually, and clean up accumulated dust.
  3. Reserve of vulnerable parts
    • Reserve commonly used spare parts (such as belts, chains, bearings, seals) to shorten downtime for maintenance.

4、 Safety operation standards

  1. personnel training
    • Operators must receive training on equipment operation, maintenance, and emergency response. Untrained personnel are prohibited from operating.
    • exampleA new employee at a certain factory mistakenly operated the feeding machine, causing the material to reverse, spill and injure personnel.
  2. safety protection
    • Install protective barriers, emergency stop buttons, and sound and light alarms to prevent personnel from entering hazardous areas by mistake.
    • It is prohibited to clean, adjust or cross the conveyor belt while the equipment is running.
  3. Emergency Response Plan
    • Develop emergency plans for material blockages, equipment malfunctions, and personnel injuries, and conduct regular drills.

5、 Common faults and solutions

Fault phenomenon Possible reasons treatment method
Belt slippage Insufficient tension and material overload Adjust the tensioning wheel and reduce the amount of material
chain breakage Excessive wear and overload operation Replace the chain and check if the motor power matches
Motor overheating Poor heat dissipation and unstable voltage Clean the motor cooling fan and check the power supply voltage
Material offset Conveyor belt deviation, misaligned guide groove Adjust the roller group and calibrate the position of the guide groove
abnormal noise Bearing damage, chain derailment Replace bearings and reinstall chains
