The common fault phenomena and analysis of water-cooled granulators are as follows

1、 Main motor system malfunction

  1. Motor cannot start or interlock to stop
    • reasonWrong starting sequence, blown fuse, main motor thread fault, abnormal interlocking device, lubrication oil pump not turned on or frequency converter induction power not discharged.
    • performanceAfter pressing the start button, the motor does not respond or suddenly stops running, and the control panel displays an interlock fault code.
    • solveCheck the starting sequence, replace the fuse, repair the motor circuit or thread, reset the emergency button, and ensure that the lubricating oil pump is turned on.
  2. Abnormal motor temperature
    • reasonInsufficient bearing lubrication, insufficient cooling water flow, or motor overload.
    • performanceThe temperature of the motor casing is too high, which may be accompanied by odor or abnormal noise.
    • solveCheck the outlet pressure and flow rate of the lubricating oil pump, clean the cooling water pipeline, and adjust the motor load.

2、 Transmission system malfunction

  1. Abnormal gearbox
    • reasonDeviation of gear lever position, low outlet pressure of lubricating oil pump, or high oil temperature.
    • performanceGearbox vibration intensifies, noise increases, or transmission efficiency decreases.
    • solveAdjust the position of the gear lever, check the lubricating oil pump and oil circuit, and replace the high-temperature lubricating oil.
  2. Friction clutch malfunction

3、 Screw process section malfunction

  1. Abnormal melt pressure

    • performanceExcessive melt pressure can cause equipment overload, or low pressure can affect granulation quality.
    • solveClean the throttle valve and machine head, replace the clogged filter screen, and adjust the parameters of the screen changer.
  2. Unstable screw extrusion
    • reasonThe feeding into the hopper is not continuous, the feeding port is blocked by foreign objects, or the plasticizing temperature is insufficient.
    • performanceFluctuations in screw speed, unstable extrusion volume, or uneven particle size.
    • solveClean up foreign objects at the feeding port, adjust the feeding speed, and increase the plasticizing temperature.

4、 Underwater cutting system malfunction

  1. Poor cutting quality
    • reasonThe cutting blade is not sharp, the blade is rough, or the particle water temperature is abnormal.
    • performanceParticle adhesion, uneven size, or rough surface.
    • solveReplace the cutting blade and adjust the particle water temperature to the appropriate range (to avoid adhesion caused by excessive temperature and blockage of the mold hole caused by insufficient temperature).
  2. The granulator is running abnormally
    • reasonThe temperature of the motor winding is too high, the speed is too low, or the torque is too high.
    • performanceThe vibration and noise of the granulator increase, or it is unable to cut the granules properly.
    • solveCheck the motor cooling system, adjust the speed and torque parameters, and clean the debris in the cutting chamber.

5、 Water cooling system malfunction

  1. Cooling effect decreases
    • reasonFilter blockage, insufficient coolant, or condenser dust accumulation.
    • performanceThe temperature rise of the equipment affects the plasticization or granulation quality.
    • solveRegularly clean the filter screen and condenser, check the coolant level and replenish it in a timely manner.
  2. Leakage or abnormal pressure

    • performanceWater accumulation, pressure fluctuations, or alarm indicator lights around the device.
    • solveTighten pipeline connections, replace seals or condensers, and check system pressure switches.

6、 Other common faults

  1. Equipment vibration or noise
    • reasonBearing damage, wear of the ring press roller, or excessive clearance of the main shaft bearing.
    • performanceDuring operation, vibration intensifies, noise increases, or particle mass decreases.
    • solveReplace the bearings or mold rollers, and adjust the clearance of the main shaft bearings.
  2. Insufficient production
